4.0 MATHEMATICAL REASONING

4.1 Statement

A statement is a sentence that is either true or false but not both.

Examples of statements:

a) Five is greater than two. (True statement)

b) 2 is an even number. (True statement)

c) 5 is prime factor of 15.(True statement)

d) -2 < - 4 (False statement)

Examples of non-statements:

(Instructions, questions, exclamatory sentences, functions, equations, algebraic expressions ...)

a) Please queue up!

b) Where are you going?

c) 2x + y = 3

d) a - b

e) f(x) = x + 3
